A quick word
Awhile back, Bill Goold gave me a book I would heartily recommend: Lectures on Old Testament Theology by Dennis Kinlaw.
The quick note is this: in the book, Dr. Kinlaw says to start your Old Testament theology with the book of Psalms.
So, I thought in the week after Christmas, I will read the Psalms, but with a really specific focus: what characteristics of God are revealed? I am not poring over the Pslams or even reading them closely; I am looking for declarations about God— His nature, attributes, characteristics.
I have just finished Psalm 25. So far, the three main characteristics of God are that He is righteous, a Savior, and, the one that is most common thus far, He hears prayer.
