I sent my laat post out too soon. The evening worship was amazing. We met at the school run by the Methodist Church in Costa Rica.
Wonderful fellowship as they fed us and entertained us with their drum corps and Costa Rican folk dances.
Worship was amazing. It is really something when hundreds of people sing with deep feeling. Again, you should be willing to travel to worship! I drove to Philadeplhia to see the Rolling Stones, and they've got nothing on a crowd of believers singing "Christ the Lord is Risen Today."
But wait there's more. Carolyn Moore preached. She wrote a short book that was so impactful, "The 19," about taking the Methodist ordination questions seriously. Go look them up and think how radical your ministry would be if ordained elders answered those questions and acted on it... Anyway, Carolyn Moore is one of our great preachers. And... she preached on the core Methodist doctrine, Christian perfection. Sometimes called entire sanctification. The Second Blessing. Holiness of Heart and Life. Dennis Kinlaw called if having the mind of Christ. Steve Cordle calls it having a Jesus-Shaped life. The core biblical term in Holiness. What we are really talking about is that the best of the Gospel is the rest of the Gospel-- what Jesus will do in your life after you believe in Him!
This was at least the 2nd time that has been mentioned here, and it must be. Friends THERE IS NO REASON FOR A METHODIST CHURCH TO EXIST EXCEPT TO PREACH HOLINESS OF HEART AND LIFE. God does not need the GMC if we will not do what He raised Methodists up for in the first place. To say the least, I was pretty hopped up last night. This is going to be one of those spiritual times where it takes me 2 weeks to figure out what happened. One thing I do know. I have had a particular anointing since 2007. God has been prompting me to ask for more of it, and last night the way, the key was made clear: He must become greater, I must become less.
Jessie found a buddy to dance with in the evening worship. Dorothy, who is from Houston but born in Winchester. Had to go to Costa Rica to meet a neighbor.
Went to a day of evangelism training, sponsored by the General Conference, with a ministry called Spirit and Truth. We went out to pray for people and witness if the door was open. That was a blessing; I was with Dorothy, Jessie's dancing friend; Pedro, from over on the Caribbean coast; and Jamie-- she is a pastor in the north of Costa Rica. Some people brushed us off. Some were diffident. One lady asked for prayer for her son working in Puerto Rico. One fellow was really hesitant, and I think I know why....gangsters live next door to him and they were eye-balling us. We saw a guy come out of a ditch where he was trying to get some water to drink. He looked rough, said he was hungry. I went to the church to get some bread and coffee, and gave him some money. I ask God if I should give money, and do only if I get the go ahead. God is good to me.
I told a friend yesterday that we can joyfully experience this moment, express it as best we can to others, and then explain it so future generations, too, will share the joy.
Praise the Lord!!!! I can only imagine what it must be like there at Conference. Lord, fill us and revive us!
