Evangelism Story
Just because you do what God says, doesn't mean it will work out the way you think it should
So yesterday, I had a strong impression from the Lord that I was supposed to go a certain person, open my Bible, and show them Romans 10:13.
I balked, thinking that might be awkward. Then another prompt: show them and ask them if they want to pray to be saved.
So I did.
The person was fine with my sharing the Gospel. But there was no response. Just nothing. They were willing to listen. But it went nowhere.
One of my old evangelism travelling buddies, Michael Crouch said we shouldn’t just write about success stories…we love talking about times something awesome and dramatic happens. He said but mostly you feel like you whiffed. Maybe if we talked about that, it might make evangelism seem less intimidating, keep people from feeling like they failed because a whole trap house did not accpet Christ when you came by to pray and pass out a tract!
I don’t consider what happened yesterday a failure. I was obedient to God. It does not mean the response has to be gratifying to me. It is not God’s job to make me feel like I was successful.
When I think of my own conversion, the number of folks who witnessed to me before I ever listened to the Gospel, I know that I am a step along the way in this person’s spiritual journey. Other people and means will continue to witness to the person. I did my part.
