I was up way too early this morning. I usually take being awake in the middle of the night as a call to pray. But I have also been trying to think about going to the gym if I get woken up early. So, I went at 3:30. Got exercising, praying, and reading Scripture in. There was no one there when I arrived. When I left at 4:30, there were 5 of us. Like I said, I was there because I was awake, not because I am hard core. but two of the 5 are. I have seen them in the gym ridiculously early. Isn’t it wild that people will get up and give time to what is important to them?
Part of why I was up early, I think, was because I am stoked for my discipleship group that has started on Tuesday mornings. We are meeting at 6:15 a.m. We dig into the Gospel of Mark, and ask what evangelism/discipleship lessons we are supposed to learn, and then we go out and do it. This morning was great! We spent some time discussing two evangelism/discipleship teachings, Mark 1:4-45 and 2:1-12. And then we had a chance to share how we did during the week.
What I have been sharing with the group is that Jesus will keep emphasizing the ministry of Mark 1 over and over throughout the Gospel, and so we will have lots of opportunities to practice what we are learning, because the lessons are few, but repeated often!
The goal of this group is ultimately that each person in the group will lead their own group. It’s easy. there is no real training required. Read the Gospel, do what Jesus is showing the disciples to do. Gather together and share what you did about it!
