Let us Pray
Part of my work in the Global Methodist Church, the new denomination that was formed after it became apparent the United Methodist Church was not going to stand on the authority of the Word of God— part of my work is to coordinate church planting. It has been very exciting!
The greatest need is church planters— pastors and lay people who are willing to start something new. To give you a sense of the task: an existing church has a building, a pastor, a congregation, money. A new church has none of that. Maybe they have a pastor. But they do not start with a congregation or a building. They don’t have members giving money. So they are really starting from nothing! It takes hard work and guts.
Planters are hard to find.
I have had three recent encounters that have reminded me of the importance of prayer in this process. And I am reminded of Luke 10:2, the first Bible verse I ever memorized (that, as they say, is a whole nother story). Every day I have an alarm on my phone at 10:02 that says “Luke 10:2.” It reminds me to stop and pray that the Lord would send workers into the harvest field.
That is pretty much my church planter recruitment strategy. Oh, there are other things I will do. But none of them is as important as prayer.
Will you please join me in praying that God will send church planters?
