First things first. I am writing this in a hospital parking lot. Will you pray for my friend Amanda?
A discipleship image that sticks in my mind: it was late summer 2004. We were with my aunt at Morro bay. I saw a guy out surfing with his granddaughter. She was maybe 7 or 8. They were in wetsuits and she had a child’ surfboard. They were sitting on the boards, bobbing along. The old man was passing on what he loved to his granddaughter. I’d like to know… is he still alive? Is she still surfing? It makes me want to surf just thinking about this memory. What if someone wanted to be a Christian just because they saw your joy in disciple-making?
See, we pass on what we love, what we think is important. That’s disciple-making. We should pass on to our family and friends, to new believers, Christ and His ways. Talk about as when you wake up and go to sleep. At meals. When you go in and out.
I have a friend who has played in some punk bands. I have a song for him, “Too Fat to Surf,” but they don’t want to record it.
I got a cool video from the first meeting of a new home group at Kevin and Calisa Fitzpatrick’ house!
I got a call from a friend who is discipling a new believer. He was looking for some books, maybe a system. He said he could not wait any longer so he went 2Q on him….read Mark chapter 1 and asked the 2 Questions: what is the Spirit saying to me and what am I going to to do about it? I could feel his excitement over the phone. He said, “it’s like this is what it’ all about.”
I am totally stoked for those kind of things happening…. New home groups…. Discipling new believers by letting Jesus speak for Himself… letting Jesus run the discipleship group.
