So one of the cool things about hanging out with Ralph Moore is that he recommends a lot of books. I am just starting on one he recommended, Ephesiology, a study one of the most powerful of the New Testaments churches, Ephesus. The book is by Michael Cooper.
Excellent reflexion and I see the same in Academia, we built these huge complexes that have more to do with Amusement parks than education ( Food courts, top of the line sport equipments, multiple swimming pool with lazy rivers, deluxe dormitories etc...). Everything became ENTERTAINMENT, we went from being actors of our faith or education to become "spectators" just happy to "sit down and watch". In the 1800's a book was magic, being an educator was a noble and respected profession , now knowledge can de accessed for free anywhere you can connect to the internet, they had to come up with something to "sell" to the students and they went after the "campus experience" hence these expensive and over the top installations, maybe the best way to learn is to stay light and mobile, to travel and meet people and gather experiences, maybe the best way to be with God is to be on the road and to remove profitability from the equation. Maybe a church can be anywhere people gather to worship God: We became complaisant.
Wow, Fred. You nailed it. The nature of an entertainment complex, a come and absorb an experience, vs a living, breathing faith... which is why it is often more beneficial to fish and talk about God...
